While buying another set of the trilogy on the spirituality by
David Torkington, I have bought also “`Wisdom from Franciscan
Italy: The Primacy of Love`_” It describes a very nice and simple
story (with quite predictable end, I am afraid) about pilgrimage
of some Englishmen (and Englishwomen) to the Franciscan Tuscany.
The second layer of the story is a simple but detailed telling of
the life of Saint Francis. The third story laid on the top of
these two is the most interesting one, the attempt to explain
foundation of the Franciscan spirituality, and its quite original
approach to everything: God, salvation, Christ’s sacrifice on the
Cross. Also, the author tries to explain Duns Scottus theology
and soteriology, which he claims is non-Anselmian.
