 Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
 With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
 Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
 A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
 Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
 Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
 Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
 The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

 "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
 With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
 Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
 The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
 Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
 I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

 -- Emma Lazarus: The New Colossus (1883)

1Cor 1:18-31 Foolishness of God. He declares that those who are valued by the God are not those who are valued by the world. What was the measure of value of one's life then?

“22. For Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom, 23. but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.” (1Cor 1:22-23, NET)

The measure of worth of one's life was blessing and wisdom. And the Christ base human value on either of these, because he is our blessing and he is our wisdom

What is the measure of the life's worth today? I would say the success. We do have tendency to worship successful people: Jeff Bezos of Amazon, famous sportsmen, artists.

Explain meritocracy.
